Photography Projects 2014 - June

My 365 and A Year in Song - June 2014

Check out my snappy posting this month!  Trying to keep on top of things.

My 365

Despite having a very busy June, I kept up with posting a photo every day on theme with the My_365 community.  I was also honoured by another feature by My_365 yesterday of my #street image which I titled 'No Way Out'.  Here's the uncropped featured photo:-

You can follow my daily postings on Instagram here. Here are all of the My_365 photos from June:-

A Year in Song - 52 Week Project

Continuing with a rather random selection of songs from The Photographer Within, but it always seems to spark an idea with me even if I don't particularly like the song!

Here are the weeks of June, with the lyric underneath:-

"I've got the magic in me" from 'Magic' by B.O.B.

"What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man." from 'Whatta Man' by Salt 'n' Pepa

DEDPXL

I also wanted to write about another community that I've been joining in with lately.  I've been following Zack Arias since his Q&A blog and this year his new site supporting photographers is DEDPXL.  With the tagline 'More Signal, Less Noise', great articles and monthly (well, roughly monthly) assignments, I was eager to get involved.

Last month's assignment was 'shadows'.  Zack and his wife, Meg, do a critique and grading at the end of each assignment and they talked briefly about my submission this month which was this photo:-

I couldn't disagree with any of their comments and was very pleased to be graded a 'B', but inspired to keep working and pushing for better photos.  In particular, there were 2 photos in the critique which featured balloon shadows (creating a coloured shadow - genius!).  The first was just a row of coloured balloon shadows, which was cool, but then the photographer shot more, building on the idea, and ended up with a fantastic shadow image of a (shadow) girl holding a bunch of coloured shadow balloons.

This would probably make a lot more sense if you saw the critique (which you can here if you're interested), but my point is that I loved that the photographer saw something cool that worked well, but didn't just rest with a 'good' photo, instead thinking more, going back and creating a really great image.  This is something I think I could do with reminding myself.

Anyway, this month's assignment is 'Get Low' and in an effort to follow the assignment, I'm looking for images from a low angle for My_365 and seeing where that takes me.  I love feeling inspired!
